Networking break at STFC RAL, Tuesday 24th August

Due to urgent work on the networking at STFC RAL there will be a break in external connectivity on Tuesday 24th August at 7:30am. This is expected to last no longer than 30 minutes.

During this time it will not be possible to connect to resources at RAL, and any open connections will be lost. However, since it is only external networking which is affected, jobs running on the cluster services at the time should not experience any problems.

Apologies for the inconvenience and the short notice.

Magellan restarted on Saturday 10th due to power failures at RAL

Magellan was unavailable from around 6:00am until 10:00am on Saturday 10th July due to a power failure on the RAL site.

All jobs running at the time will have been lost but no CPU time will have been charged.

Accounting problems on Magellan

Due to accounting problems, over the weekend most user accounts were disabled on Magellan. All users have now been enabled again and the automatic policy system turned off.

Unfortunately when a user is disabled, any queued batch jobs that become eligible to run are deleted and not run.  As a result, multiple batch jobs were deleted over the weekend and not run.

Many apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Problems with login to Magellan

There was a problem with the accounting system on Magellan at around 7:30am on 2nd July which resulted in most users being disabled.

This would have prevented interactive logins with a message about cpu time exceeded or other similar messages. A few batch jobs may also have failed on startup.

Magellan available again 18th May

Magellan is now available to users and the batch queues are running.

SGI replaced three memory DIMMs that were giving errors.
