Loss of interactive access to Magellan 19/07/11

Interactive access to Magellan was unavailable for a short period from around 09:47 to 10:19 due to a problem with a network switch at RAL.

Magellan was up and running OK during this period.

Disruption in network access to Magellan on 15th March

On 15th March a series of network upgrades will be applied to the RAL network infrastructure.

During the period that this work is being performed (08:00am to 10:00am) there will be intermittent breaks in network access to Magellan.

Work running on the machine will continue but interactive access will be disrupted.

Magellan - LSF batch running again

The LSF batch system on Magellan is back up and running now. Queue status and job submission are available.

Magellan - LSF batch stalled due to problems with a license server

The LSF batch system on Magellan is currently offline due to problems with a license server. This is now under investigation.

You will still be able to login to Magellan but you will be unable to see the status of running jobs or submit new ones.

Magellan reboot over the Christmas period

Magellan developed problems over the Christmas period starting early on 27th December.

Due to the nature of the problem the system  became unresponsive to interactive access but still responsive to some remote monitoring so the problem was not picked up for a while.

The system was rebooted on 31st December and all services restarted OK. The problem appears to be that the system ran out of memory and entered an out of memory (OOM)deadlock state.
